My Foodie Story
“I Got It From My Mama… the heart disease and the love of cooking. One I had to overcome, the other I turned into my superpower.”
I’ll be honest—I’ve always been a foodie. But here’s the truth: being a foodie isn’t the problem, it’s the choices that can get you into trouble.
I learned that lesson the hard way. After a heart scare in my mid-40s—and seeing how chronic diseases impacted my family—I knew something had to change. I couldn’t keep repeating history.
That’s when I decided to become a “good foodie.” For me, that meant learning how to enjoy the foods I loved while cooking them in ways that nourished my body instead of harming it.
Was I excited about cooking at first? Not really. But I quickly realized the kitchen was the one place I could take back control. And here’s what happened when I shifted my mindset:
I started eating to live, not living to eat.
I discovered healthy food can still taste amazing.
I felt better—inside and out—within weeks.
And yes, I saved money (goodbye, drive-thru!).
That’s when it clicked: cooking wasn’t a chore—it was my ticket to better health, more energy, and a lifestyle I could actually enjoy. And now? Cooking is my superpower.
